On February 3, 2012 the constant operation of a new computing cluster which has a peak productivity 3.4 teraflops was started. This is 2 times more than the performance of the most powerful calculators operated in the University. The system has a number of architectural features that allow to consider it a new stage in the development of supercomputer base of the University. Its creation - is the realization one of the objectives formulated in the fourth priority area of the Polytechnical University development  as a research university "... the creation of computer systems high computing power that implement unconventional ways to control the computing process".

On January 30, 2012 visit of the delegation of AVL List GmbH (Austria) headed by Vice-President Werner Moser was held. In the frame of the meeting with SPbSTU Rector A.I.Rudskoy the cooperation directions were discussed together with the problems of organizing of joint research Center with the participation of “Zvezda” Ltd. Then SPbSPU researches presented their outcomes and investigations in the field of engines both construction and testing.
