St.Petersburg State Polytechnical University annually enrolls around 3 000 students from all over Russia and abroad.
The Polytechnical University is based on a compact park-like campus in the residential north-west district of St.Petersburg. A greater part of the campus is a large park with over a score of university buildings scattered around it.
The University hostels accommodate around 5000 nonresidents. There is also a residential area for international students open to both — overseas and Russian students, who chose to live in a multicultural environment.
The Polytechnical University provides a wide range of social, cultural, recreational and artistic on-campus facilities for its students and staff.
Sport facilities of the University include swimming pool, volleyball and basketball halls, a stadium, tennis courts and gyms. University Sport Complex is open for all students and the SPbSPU Sport Club welcomes both the beginners and the accomplished performers from basketball to skiing. The University hosts Smaller Olympic Games — an annual sport event — involving both Russian and international students.
Outdoor Sport Facilities for students are available at the Suburb Sporting Camps located in the vicinity of St.Petersburg. The Polytechnical University possesses two recreation areas as off-campus components: the Northern Camp in Karelia and the Southern Camp on the Black Sea shore, near the town Tuapse. Tourism, diving, mountaineering, yachting are among favorite pastimes of the students.
There is an international club — «Strannik» (Wanderer), for overseas students. It works within the structure of the University. The club carries out ethnic parties (a party hosted by this or that nationality presented at the university), organizes different student activities, topical discussions and lectures on world history and culture.
Every year the University organizes international students festivals «Golden Autumn» and «White Nights» which gather amateur performers from the institutions of higher education of St. Petersburg and outskirts.
Every year the Polytechnical University takes part in organizing and carrying out international events, such as: East Poetry Festival, Folk Art Festival, International Exhibitions and others.
The University organizes a number of excursions to the most famous sights of St. Petersburg, which is considered the cultural capital of Russia, as well as guided tours to environs, and trips to ancient Russian towns such as Pskov and Novgorod.
