INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS, NANOTECHNOLOGY AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS

The Institute of Physics, Nanotechnology and Telecommunications includes 3 study areas: Physics and Nanotechnologies study area, Electronics and Telecommunications study area and Medical Physics and Bioengineering study area.

 

Physics and Nanotechnologies study area was founded on the basis of the Faculty of Physics and Nanotechnologies (the Faculty of Applied-Physics till September 2012) and the group of physicists from the Faculty of Physics and Mechanics. Both Faculties developed the school, which began in 1919 when A.F.Ioffe created the world’s first Faculty for engineering physicists training.

 

The study area includes following departments:

  • Plasma Physics
  • Space Exploration
  • Physics and Technology of Nanostructures
  • Experimental Nuclear Physics
  • Experimental Physics
  • Theoretical Physics

 

 

Biophysics Electronics and Telecommunications study area was founded on the basis of the Faculty of Radiophysical Science, which was organized in 1952 consisting of a number of departments on the Faculty of Physics and Mechanics. Its creation was motivated by the need of research engineers preparation for radio electronics roughly developing at that time. Nowadays the study area provides training experts in the fields of physics, radio electronics and informatics, science and national defense.

 

The study area includes following departments:

  • Physical Electronics
  • Radio-electronic Means Of Information Protection
  • Radio Engineering and Telecommunications
  • Integrated Electronics
  • Physics of Semiconductors & Nanoelectronics

 

 

Medical Physics and Bioengineering study area was founded on the basis of the Faculty Medical Physics and Bio-engineering, which was established in 1997 with participation of St.Petersburg State Medical Academy named by I.I.Mechnikov.

 

The study area includes following departments:

  • Physicochemical Foundation of Medicine, Biotechnologies and Rehabilitation Biotechnical Systems
  • Physicochemical Biology of the Cell and Medical Technologies

  • Physics of ultra-rays and astrophysics of high-energy - Space Exploration department
  • Solar physics and solar-terrestrial relationship Space Exploration department
  • Theory and practice of wave functions engineering – Physics and Technology of Nanostructures department
  • Future technology on the basis of nanoheterostructures - Physics and Technology of Nanostructures department
  • Creation of new semiconductor equipment elements - Physics and Technology of Nanostructures department
  • Experimental physics – Experimental physics department
  • Physics of the condensed condition - Experimental physics department
  • Nuclear physics and elementary particles physics – Experimental nuclear physics department
  • Industrial tomography and introscopy - Experimental nuclear physics department

Physics and Nanotechnologies study area provides training of scientific and researchers in forms of postgraduate, doctorate and internship in following fields:

  • «Plasma physics» (01.04.08)
  • «Physics of semiconductors» (01.04.10)
  • «Physics of the condensed condition» (01.04.07)
  • «Nuclear physics and elementary particles physics» (01.04.16).

 

Scientific research at Electronics and Telecommunications study area departments is a fundamental component in its activities. Training of specialists, who are capable to create the advanced equipment on the basis of the last achievements of physics, mechanics, mathematics, demands from professors personal continuous participation in scientific r esearches.

Fields of study diversity, on which faculty conducts students training, determines the range of the scientific researches which are carried out in laboratories of departments. Among them:

  • Technical electrodynamics, optical methods of radio signals processing, fiber-optical systems data collection and processing –Radiophysics department.
  • Telecommunication systems, statistical radio engineering, SHF-electronics, microelectronics of telecommunication systems – Radio Engineering and Telecommunications department.
  • Optoelectronics, non-linear optics, optical networks - Quantum Electronics department.
  • Electronic, ionic and quantum phenomena in a solid body, plasma and vacuum, nanocomposite materials of electronic equipment; corpuscular optics, physics and diagnostics of biomedical systems –Physical Electronics department. 
  • Gradient optics, physics and chemistry of dielectrics and polymers – Applied Solid-state Physics and Optics department.
  • Physics of semiconductors and quantum-dimensional structures, high-temperature superconductivity, optical-electronic devices –Semiconductors & Nanoelectronics department.
  • Digital systems of television and radio communication, methods and electronic means of information protection, radio navigation systems (GPS and GLONASS) , microminiature send-receive complexes – Radio-electronic Means Of Information Protection department.

 

Electronics and Telecommunications study area provides training of scientific and researchers in forms of postgraduate, doctorate and internship in following fields:

  • «Radiophysics» ( 01.04.03)
  • «Physical electronics» (01.04.04)
  • «Physics of semiconductors and dielectrics» (01.04.10)
  • «Laser Physics» (01.04.21)
  • «Radio engineering, including systems and devices of radio navigation, radar-location and television» (05.12.04)

 

Scientific research directions of Medical Physics and Bioengineering: study area:

  • Development of new medical technologies on the basis of achievements of quantum biophysics – Physicochemical Foundation of Medicine, Biotechnologies and Rehabilitation Biotechnical Systems department
  • Technologies of monitoring the blood circulation functions – Physicochemical Biology of the Cell and Medical Technologies department
  • Regulation of intracellular localization and intracellular transport – Physicochemical Biology of the Cell and Medical Technologies department (on the basis of RAS Institute of Cytology)
  • Synthesis, physical and chemical studying of hydrophilic functional polymers as carriers of biologically active agents - subdepartment of Physicochemical Foundation of Medicine, Biotechnologies and Rehabilitation Biotechnical Systems department.

 

Electronics and Telecommunications study area  provides training of scientific and researchers in forms of postgraduate, doctorate and internship in «Biophysics» (03.01.02).
